A French cadet "clearing" a corner

Note: Clearing a corner is when an upperclassman would see a cadet coming to an intersection in a road, sidewalk, etc. and yell, "clear the corner!" The new cadet would stick out his arms like airplane wings, then twist his torso to the left and yell, "clear to the left!" He would then twist his torso to the right and yell, "clear to the right!" Looking up -"clear above!" Looking down -"clear below!" It was supposed to teach the cadet to be aware of his surroundings at all times. It was a habit he needed to develop while flying.
